Responsibility throughout the entire process

Renaturation Sustainable use of nature
Clay mining, which changes the landscape, demands responsibility from quarry operators. The primary goal is to fully reintegrate the surface of the land removed during mining operations into the cultural landscape. This involves recultivation (biotopes, reforestation) and the restoration of habitats. Clay mines and operating sites are now recognized as refuges for many species listed on the red list. Mining activities repeatedly provide them with areas that are readily accepted by pioneer plants and animal species. These species are rarely found in unmined areas of the adjacent cultural landscape. Clay mining thus makes a wonderful contribution to biodiversity in the region.

Sustainability using the example of our “Mehl” clay qarry

For 120 years

the compensation areas will remain untouched and left to nature, in order to preserve biodiversity.

5.1 acres

serve as a forest refuge for the preservation of biodiversity in the “Mehl” quarry.

70 nesting and breeding boxes

were installed in the forest around the “Mehl” quarry.

100%

of the energy for the processing plant at "Mehl" quarry can be generated using PV electricity.

75%

of all amphibian species native to Germany can be found in the Westerwald clay pits.

Our goal:

An industry that creates the future and doesn’t use it up.

Our goal is to extract raw materials responsibly and develop the land in such a way that it continues to create lasting value for people and nature, even after it has been exploited. Former mining areas such as our Erlenhof clay quarry show which new habitats, water areas, and local recreation areas can be created in the process. Already during mining, we think about the time afterwards and plan measures that will enhance the landscape and the environment in the long term.
